South Gippsland Highway is scoped to be a new section of highway between Old Koonwarra-Meenijan Road and Minns Road to reduce the length of the highway from 3.4km to 2.3km.
This includes:
- Two new bridges over the Tarwin River
- Pedestrian underpass east of the new Caithness Road intersection for the Great Southern Rail Trail
- Realignment of the Great Southern Rail Trail under the second (east) river bridge
- Close off access to the old section of highway to through traffic east of Caithness Road while retaining access for local residents
- New intersection to Caithness Road and the existing intersection at Minns Road upgrade
- Installation of safety barriers
