The CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD consortium have been contracted by the South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to deliver the Port Wakefield to Port Augusta Alliance (PW2PA; the Alliance).

The PW2PA comprises multiple discrete road infrastructure upgrade projects between Port Wakefield and Port Augusta, in regional South Australia (the PW2PA projects). These include:

  • Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication Project (Joy Baluch Project), including:
    • The duplication of the existing Joy Baluch AM Bridge in Port Augusta, South Australia as well as other associated bridge upgrade and pedestrian connectivity initiatives
  • Port Wakefield Overpass and Duplication Project (Port Wakefield Project), including:
    • The construction of an overpass at the intersection of the Port Wakefield Highway, Augusta Highway and Copper Coast Highway, and duplication of the Port Wakefield Highway through the Port Wakefield township
  • Augusta Highway Project, including:
    • Augusta Highway duplication planning study (between Port Wakefield and Port Augusta)
  • Potential Additional Works subject to value for money assessments and third-party approvals (where applicable), including:
    • Works along the Augusta Highway and Port Wakefield Highway, subject to the outcome of the planning study, including but not limited to:
      • Design and construction of three overtaking lanes
      • Design and construction of a length of the Augusta Highway duplication
      • Design and construction of other upgrade works to Augusta Highway and Port Wakefield Highway to enable access by PBS level 4B vehicles
    • Port Wakefield Highway and Carslake Road intersection upgrade (South Australian Livestock Exchange)
    • Flinders Ports Title H Remediation Project (Port Pirie)
    • Port Augusta City Council works (pending funding and approval by third parties)
    • Wakefield Regional Council works (pending funding and approval by third parties).

These upgrades will improve road safety and efficiency for all users, improve freight productivity and network resilience, and support regional economic development.
