The works for the Avon River Bridge Upgrade are located on a section of the Gippsland line between Sale and Stratford and the scope includes the construction of a new bridge, installation of boom gates and an active crossing at McAlister St and other minor works.
The major elements of the Scope of Works includes:
- A new bidirectional single-track rail bridge with a nominal design speed of 90km per hour:
- New and remediation of culverts/pipes to suit hydraulic requirements;
- All works including earthworks, formation, and drainage required to tie-in the new alignment to the existing alignment;
- Upgrade of McAlister Street Level Crossing to include an active pedestrian crossing, boom barriers and accommodate through services, including new train detection (axle counter) equipment;
- Work to make safe and allow retention of the existing bridge; and
- Rail signaling works to accommodate services at 90km per hour, including relocated train detection (axle counter) equipment and upgrade of the existing location case to accommodate changes to the McAlister Street Level Crossing and new train speed.
